Marvin Sapp: Readying New Songs For Spring

Following the success of his 2007 CD, 'Thirsty,' Marvin Sapp is gearing up for a big 2010 with the anticipated release of a just-recorded new CD.
"Hopefully my record company will let me put this out around March or April," the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based pastor said.
Sapp's desired retail plan may be a little presumptuous, as his 'Thirsty' CD remains a Top 15 bestseller on the gospel charts two years after its release thanks to his runaway smash, 'Never Would Have Made It.'
Regardless, the former Commissioned member recently recorded a collection of new songs live at Resurrection Life Church in Grand Rapids.
Produced by award-winning musician/producer Aaron Lindsey (Israel Houghton/George Huff) and backed by Stellar Award winner Myron Butler and an all-star ensemble of singers and musicians; Sapp's live CD/DVD session featured 12 new songs.
Among the standouts were a powerful number called 'FreshWind,' which garnered a great response from the crowd; as well as 'I Came,' 'He Has His Hand On Me,' 'Don't Count Me Out' and 'Don't Count Me Out.'
The song 'He Saw the Best in Me' was an inspiring number with lyrics that spoke of how God sees the best in us despite what others may see.
"He saw the best in me/when every one else around me/only saw the worst in me. He's mine, And I'm His and it doesn't matter what I did/He only sees me for who I am," Sapp sang.
The catchy tune wasn't originally intended to make Sapp's new CD, until his Verity Records A&R executive Joseph Burney heard the song and petitioned Sapp to record it.
Ironically, there's a similar back-story to Sapp's mega-hit 'Never Would Have Made It' so maybe his resistance to record 'He Saw the Best in Me' is a sign of what's to come.
(FYI, 'Never Would Have Made It' ended up landing Sapp the number one spot on Billboard's Gospel Chart for a record-breaking 49 weeks.)

Fans will have to wait until next year to see just how well Sapp's new CD performs, but those who were able to stream the live concert on VerityRecords.com the night of the recording seem to be eagerly anticipating after what they heard.
